The sixth edition of NCC Khel took place on April 9 and April 15 at the St. Xavier’s College grounds. National Cadet Corps (NCC) falls under the Ministry of Defence, and it imparts basic military training to the youth in India. It motivates and nurtures the youth to join the Indian Armed Forces. Khel VI is a mega inter-battalion annual sports meet organised by NCC, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Calcutta.
While looking after the social aspect, NCC also actively promotes sports. Khel 2023, the sixth inter-battalion sports meet, featured 13-plus on-track and off-track sports events, inviting different Army battalions, Naval units and Air Force squadrons of NCC to participate in various sports competitions. In the sixth year, the college hosted over 900-plus cadets participating in this mega event, making it one of the biggest youth sports meet in the city, with 21-plus units of NCC Army, Navy and Air Force wings under Kolkata C and Kolkata-B group of West Bengal and Sikkim directorates.
The Khel finals were held on April 15. The principal and vice-principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Calcutta along with some special guests from the Army announced the winners of the 13 sports events. The closing ceremony also saw a dance and band performance.
“We organise Khel every year where we invite all colleges of other battalions including our battalion, which is 20 Bengal Battalion NCC. This year more than 900 students participated. On April 9 we conducted the prelims and today was the successful finals. I would like to thank each and everyone who conducted the Khel VI as the sports events took place both on holidays,” said Major Atish Prasad Mondal, company commander and associate NCC officer of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Calcutta.
NCC Khel VI witnessed 13 exciting sports events like football, volleyball, badminton, kho kho, long jump, shot put and many more.
The closing ceremony started off with a fusion dance by the Xaverian cadets to songs like Indiawale, Dil hai Hindustani and Chak de India.
The Xaverian Cadet band performed songs like Ae Watan, Lakshya and Vande Mataram.
The winner of the Badminton was 33 Bengal Battalion NCC, and the prizes were received by Sourav Bhuiya and Sagarika Mitra.
The winner of Kho Kho was DCH College-20 Bengal Battalion NCC
Manasi Halder from 1 Bengal CTR NCC was the winner of 200m SW
Chhattu Sardar from SK College, 20 Bengal Battalion NCC was the winner of Long Jump SD.
Suprovat Pakira from 19 Bengal Battalion NCC was the winner of both 100m SD and 200m SD.
The winner of Throwball SW was St. Xavier’s College Calcutta and the trophy was received by Samantha Cooper.
The winner of Volleyball SD was 33 Bengal Battalion NCC, and the award was received by Manas Kumar Gahana.
The winner of Football SW was SK College, 20 Bengal Battalion NCC, and the trophy was received by Riya Mondal.
The winner of Football SD was St. Xavier’s College, Raghabpur Campus, and the award was received by Subhojit Naskar.
Pranoy Kumar Roy from FC College-20 Bengal Battalion NCC was the winner of Shot Put SD.
Barnali Dolui from 1 Bengal Girls Battalion NCC was the winner of 100m SW.

St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Calcutta, 20 Bengal Battalion NCC was the winner of Tug-O-War.
The winner of the Relay Race mixed (2 SD + 2 SW) was 1 Bengal Battalion NCC.
