India topped the medals tally at the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup here on Thursday after a slew of fantastic outings from its shooters. India finished the tournament with eight medals — three gold, four silver and one bronze — and were ahead of hosts South Korea and Serbia.

The day began on a brilliant note for India when the troika of Arjun Babuta, Shahu Tushar Mane and Paarth Makhija helped the country bag its third gold, beating South Korea 17-15 in the 10m air rifle team event. It was Arjun and Shahu’s second gold in the World Cup. The second medal of the day for India came when the trio of Elavenil Valaviran, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ramita settled for silver after going down to the home team of Jihyeon Keum, Eunseo Lee and Dayeong Gwon 10-16.

For Mehuli too, this was the second gold of this tournament. In the men’s 10m air pistol team event final, the Indian team put up a spirited fight against the experienced Italian trio of Paolo Monna, Alessio Torracchi and Luca Tesconi before going down 15-17, ensuring another silver for the country. India’s third silver of the day came in the 10m air pistol team women’s event.

Rhythm Sangwan, Yuvika Tomar and Palak lost 2-10 to a South Korean side which included Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Kim Minjung. Mehuli and Mane had won India’s second gold medal, beating Hungary’s Eszter Meszaros and Istvan Peni 17-13 in a hard-fought 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team encounter on Wednesday. In other events, the men’s trap team won a silver while Shiva Narwal and Palak blitzed Kazakhstan 16-0 to claim bronze in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event.

The in-form duo of Mehuli and Tushar outsmarted the Hungarian pair of Eszter Meszaros and Istvan Pen 17-13 in an evenly poised match-up. The third and fourth place went to shooters from Israel and Czech Republic respectively.
