The Indian Super League match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Hyderabad FC ended 1-1 at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Friday.
It was a mixed day in office for ATK Mohun Bagan striker Manvir Singh. He first put his team ahead and then brought down Hyderabad FC’s Nikhil Poojary inside the ATK Bagan box. The resulting penalty was converted by João Victor.
With this result, ATK Bagan remain winless in the last two matches and are in second spot with 10 points from five matches, while Hyderabad FC — who are unbeaten — are in fifth spot with six points from four matches.
With Hyderabad FC coach Manuel Marquez suspended following a red against Jamshedpur FC, assistant coach Thangboi Singto made three changes in the starting XI. Subrata Paul was back in the goal. Souvik Chakrabarti and Nikhil Poojary were the other two who got starts.
Manvir put ATK Bagan ahead in the 54th minute.
He got the ball near the midfield following a Hyderabad FC goal-kick, went past multiple challenges and put the ball home.
Hyderabad FC got the equaliser just after 11 minutes as Victor made no mistake in scoring from the spot-kick.
ATK Bagan coach Antonio Lopez Habas said: “I think the team has played better in attack in other games this season. We had many chances to score but couldn’t.”
EB complaint
Robbie Fowler-coached SC East Bengal, peeved with the dismal standard of refereeing, on Friday lodged a complaint with the AIFF after some howlers cost them massively in the past few games.
East Bengal have lost three matches in a row and are yet to score a goal from four matches. They finally managed a point after a hard-fought draw against Jamshedpur FC on Thursday in a match where Eugeneson Lyngdoh was sent off following a second yellow card which seemed a dubious decision.
