Ashok Dinda is not playing the ongoing Ranji Trophy match at the Eden, but the much-experienced paceman is doing his bit to help Bengal overcome the semi-final hurdle against Karnataka.
Ishan Porel, who rocked Karnataka picking up five for 39 on Sunday, thanked Dinda for sharing his wisdom with him. “I spoke to him (Dinda) on Saturday night from Sudip (Chatterjee)’s phone. He advised me to bowl in a disciplined way. He has got a lot more experience, having taken so many wickets for Bengal on the Eden pitch.
“I remembered what he said — ‘Don’t try too much, bowl in right areas and you will get wickets’. It definitely helped,” the young speedster told reporters after the second day’s play.
Porel also admitted that playing for India A, and particularly the recent ‘A’ series in New Zealand, has helped him become a better bowler.
“I have gained more experience after playing 20-odd matches. I’m more confident now to pitch the ball up and get it to move. The swing is happening naturally and I am not putting any extra effort.”
About his Sunday’s performance, Porel, whose wicket-taking celebration resembles that of Brazil and Liverpool player Roberto Firmino, said that it was his best till date. “This performance means a lot to me. Our total wasn’t too big. It was difficult, more so as they have a strong batting line-up,” he said.
