Kolkata Knight Riders recorded their first win in their second match this season and the bulk of the credit should go to Shubman Gill. The youngster remained unbeaten on 70 off 62 balls as KKR won with two overs to spare.
Gill said he decided to play along the ground because of the conditions.
“The ball wasn’t spinning that much and it was easier to hit down the ground. I think it was really important for our team to get this win,” the Man of the Match said. “We bowled really well and it had to be backed by our batting.”
Gill was involved in an unbroken 92-run stand with Eoin Morgan as the pair helped KKR reach the target.
Asked if he had got any tips from England’s World Cup-winning captain during their partnership, Gill said: “There weren’t any long conversations.”
Morgan too was full of praise for Gill. “I didn’t have to tell Gill a great deal to be honest... he’s beautiful to watch, has a good bat swing, very languid style.,” Morgan said.
Captain Dinesh Karthik was also happy for Gill. “It feels good as a captain. I want to make sure Gill is having an easy journey with no pressure,” he said.
