Australia have named batting talent Will Pucovski and all-rounder Cameron Green among five uncapped players in an extended 17-man squad for the four-Test series versus India.

Victoria opener Pucovski and Green join seamers Sean Abbott, whose bouncer accidentally hit Phil Hughes during a Sheffield Shield game, leading to his tragic death in 2014, Michael Neser and Queensland leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson among the potential Test debutants.

“What we saw in the opening rounds of the Sheffield Shield were a number of players performing exceptionally well,” selector Trevor Hohns said in a media release. “Two of those many standout players were of course Green and Pucovski.

Hohns said David Warner would be consulted about the other opener’s slot.

“Of course, we’ll talk to David. It goes a long way in forming an opening partnership. You have to be comfortable with your partner. We certainly do consult players on such issues,” Hohns was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.
