After Shane Warne, Sunil Gavaskar too has spoken up for bowlers, suggesting that rules could be tweaked a little to ensure a better balance between bat and ball in the shortest format of the game.
This IPL, games in Sharjah particularly have once again highlighted how the bowlers have little to play for in T20 cricket when it is played on flat decks and shorter grounds.
Gavaskar, in an interview to PTI, said: “It (T20s) is loaded heavily in favour of the batsmen for sure. So, give a fast bowler two bouncers per over and yes the boundaries can be easily longer, if the ground authorities want it.”
“Also look at giving an extra over to the bowler who takes a wicket in his first three overs,” the 71-year-old added.
The former India captain, however, made it clear that he doesn’t prescribe too much tinkering with T20 cricket.
Warne, while doing commentary in the England-Australia series last month, had taken up the bowlers’ case.
“What about four bowlers bowl five overs? I just think it’s a better contest between bat and ball,” the Australia great had said.
