Kings XI Punjab will go all out for a win when they face Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

It is the last match of the league stage for both teams, but while Kings XI are playing for a berth in the playoffs, Super Kings have already been knocked out. But that peculiarly has made Super Kings play better and they have won their last two matches.

Kings XI have the firepower to deny Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men a hat-trick of wins, but cricket on the tired UAE pitches has become tricky. Captain KL Rahul, however, will not have to worry about the dew factor on Sunday as they will be playing in the afternoon. Rahul had blamed it on the dew after they lost their last match against Rajasthan Royals.

On paper, Kings XI look to be the stronger of the two teams with Rahul and Chris Gayle being in top form with the bat, and Mohammed Shami, Chris Jordan, Ravi Bishnoi complementing that with the ball.

But Super Kings, with nothing to lose, would surely want to bow out on a high. Young Ruturaj Gaikwad has been getting runs for them and Ravindra Jadeja too looks in good touch.

Gayle fined

Gayle has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL’s code of conduct during Kings XI’s match against Rajasthan Royals.

The IPL did not specify the exact incident for which he was penalised but one assumes that the Jamaican was penalised for throwing his bat away in disgust after getting out for 99 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Friday night.

“Mr Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL said in a statement.
