Captain Eoin Morgan hailed Kolkata Knight Riders’ 59-run win over Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi as the team’s most complete performance of the season so far.

“I think the timing of this win couldn’t be any better. Playing against a side who are second coming towards the business end of the tournament, getting two points is huge,” Morgan said at the post-match media conference.

“We had the most complete performance as a group in this tournament so far. Until today, we feel as if we hadn’t played our best cricket. In this game, I think it was close to that,” the skipper added.

The victory was set up by Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine with their brilliant century stand that helped KKR set a daunting target of 195 before Varun Chakravarthy cleaned up Delhi Capitals’ middle order.

Morgan was all praise for Narine, acknowledging that the thrust he provided made Rana more and more confident. “Sunil’s shots and the confidence he showed rubbed off on Rana as well. Watching them play with the freedom that they did was outstanding.

“Sunil has been an integral part of this franchise for a number of years now. His ability as an all-rounder is key in our team. To have him back and come in and perform not only with the ball but also with the bat is outstanding.

“He has just proved how valuable he is to the team.”

Leg-spinner Chakravarthy too deserves special mention, as his maiden five-for in the IPL confirmed KKR’s victory. And for him, this truly was a “surreal” occasion.

“This is surreal. In the last few games, I didn’t get wickets, so I wanted to get one or two today, but I’m really fortunate that I got five,” Chakravarthy, adjudged Man of the Match, said at the post-match presentation.

Among his five scalps, the prize wicket of Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer too was one. “I enjoyed Shreyas’ wicket the most. I was bowling to the shorter boundary, so I had to attack the stumps,” he said.
