With Covid-19 cases again on the rise in Maharashtra, a possibility of the three India-England ODIs getting shifted to Eden Gardens from Pune has emerged.
The ODI series is scheduled to begin from March 23.
Although nothing has been said officially on the matter by the BCCI, sources said that the ODIs could be shifted as the Covid situation in Maharashtra is a matter of concern.
“The Board may think of shifting those matches to a place where Covid cases are fewer. In that case, Calcutta is better placed as the situation there is not at all as bad as that in the cities of Maharashtra. So a shift of venue cannot be ruled out completely,” said a BCCI source.
If a venue change does happen, the Eden would be the frontrunner also because of the Board’s rotation policy.
Late on Saturday evening, though, the Maharashtra government gave Pune the green light to host the ODIs as the state association agreed to host them behind closed doors.
The ball is now in the BCCI’s court.
