India captain Mithali Raj became the highest run-getter in women’s cricket across all formats, going past former England skipper Charlotte Edwards, and helped India beat England by four wickets in the third and final ODI versus England at the County Ground, New Road, in Worcester on Saturday.
The series was already lost after England won the first two matches, but Mithali’s unbeaten 75 helped India salvage some pride and finish the tour on a better note.
The result also meant Mithali had the most number of wins (84) now as captain in women’s ODIs.
The skipper reached the milestone with a boundary down the ground off Natalie Sciver in the 23rd over of India’s reply after they won the toss and bowled first, restricting England to 219 in a game reduced to 47-overs-a-side due to rain.
Having gone past Charlotte (10,273 runs), Mithali now aggregates 10,337 runs across all formats. Scoring three successive half-centuries, she also finished as the highest run-getter (206 runs at an average of 103) of the series.
Brief scores: England Women 219 in 47 ovs (N. Sciver 49; D. Sharma 3/47). India Women 220/6 in 46.3 ovs (M. Raj 75 n.o.). India Women won by 4 wickets
