World No. 1 Iga Swiatek won her fourth title of the year and her first-ever at home by routing Laura Siegemund 6-0, 6-1 in the final of the Poland Open on Sunday.

The French Open champion didn’t lose a set over the course of the tournament. Swiatek has also won at Doha and Stuttgart this year.

“I want to thank my team and my family. It’s not easy to play in Warsaw, but I’m so happy that we could manage and do everything we could today (Sunday), after a pretty tiring day yesterday (Saturday),” the Polish player said.

“I wanted to put it all in and go for it. I’m pretty happy that I did.”

The rain delays in the tournament meant Swiatek started Friday by playing her quarter final and ended it by starting her semi-final against Yanina Wickmayer.

She led 5-1 in the second set and had three match points before the Belgian fought back. Play was halted with the match finely balanced.

On Sunday, Wickmayer won a fifth straight game and reached deuce on Swiatek’s serve. The Pole wasted two more match points in the tie-break before clinching a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) victory.

Swiatek had a much easier time in the 68-minute final, breaking her German opponent five times and never facing a break point.

Siegemund had spent more than six hours on court on Saturday as she beat Lucrezia Stefanini and then compatriot Tatjana Maria, both in three sets, to reach her first final since 2017.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t put up more of a battle today, but it was a little bit too much yesterday,” Siegemund said. “The legs, they stayed at the hotel today (Sunday).”

70th week as No.1

Iga extended her lead atop the WTA Tour rankings. She now holds a 645-point advantage over No.2 Aryna Sabalenka.

This week marks the 70th week at No.1 for Swiatek, who has held the top ranking since April 4, 2022.

One week after making her top 60 breakthrough, Aranxta Rus becomes the oldest player in Tour history — at 32 years old — to win her first WTA singles title.

With the title run in Hamburg, Rus reaches a career-high ranking of No.42, up 18 spots from last week. She is the first Dutchwoman to move into the top 50 since Kiki Bertens held the No. 25 in August 2021.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who won her first career singles title in Lausanne, made her top 30 debut this week.

Yanina Wickmayer, a semi-finalist in Warsaw and a former world No.12, returns to the top 100 this week, at No.93.
