Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal’s consistent performances have made it immensely tough for Ravichandran Ashwin to return to the India ODI side.

Although Ravindra Jadeja has made quite a few appearances post Kuldeep and Chahal’s emergence, Ashwin hasn’t played an ODI since the one against the West Indies on June 30, 2017 at North Sound.

Kuldeep, however, doesn’t want to view it as if his match-winning shows have shut the door on Ashwin.

Interacting with the media on the eve of India’s second ODI against Australia, to be played in Nagpur, the left-arm chinaman clarified: “We haven’t ousted anyone. Not at all… It’s just that we have got the opportunities and we did well.

“They (Ashwin and Jadeja) have always been doing well for India. In Test matches, Ash and Jaddubhai are still playing and doing well.”

Kuldeep went on to add that he gets to learn a lot from Ashwin and Jadeja in the longest format of the game. “We learn a lot from them as they have a lot of experience.

“When I am in the Test squad, I learn a lot from them. It’s just that whenever we got an opportunity — Chahal and me — we have performed for the team and that helped the team win. So, I’m happy about it,” he said.

In the first game back on Saturday, Kuldeep bowled well and got a couple of important wickets, while Jadeja despite going wicketless, was very economical, conceding only 33 off his 10 overs. With Chahal also waiting for his chance, Kuldeep is happy that all spinners are bowling well, which augurs well for India going into the World Cup.

“To be honest, Chahal, myself and Jaddubhai are playing really well, so there’s nothing much to worry about and we are focusing game by game. That, I think, is the way to go,” added Kuldeep.

Asked if he has ever felt pressure while bowling to any particular batsman, Kuldeep replied: “No one, to be very honest. There are a few players who have played me well, but I am really not afraid of getting hit.”

However, Shaun Marsh, according to Kuldeep, is one batsman who has really tackled him quite well. “Shaun Marsh is a very good player of spin bowling.

“In Australia, he was playing really well against me and so, the team management wanted to give me a break for a couple of games. After that, I studied Marsh’s batting and saw him playing a lot of deliveries on the front foot.”
