Cristiano Ronaldo has set tongues wagging on his future at Juventus by posting a cryptic message on social media saying he has checked all his target boxes he had set for himself when he made his switch from Real Madrid three years ago.

Juventus’ run of nine straight Serie A titles came to an end this year as they were deposed by Inter Milan and only secured Champions League qualification on the final day of the campaign on Sunday.

“The life and career of any top player are made of ups and downs,” Ronaldo posted on Instagram after landing Coppa Italia glory in 2020-21 and becoming the fastest man to reach 100 goals for Juventus.

“Year after year, we face fantastic teams, with extraordinary players and ambitious goals, so we always have to give our best to keep ourselves at excellent levels.

“This year we couldn’t win Serie A, congratulations to Inter for the well deserved title. However, I have to value everything that we achieved this season at Juventus, both in collective and individual terms.

“The Italian Super Cup, Italian Cup and Serie A top scorer trophy fill me with happiness, mainly due to the difficulty they carry with them, in a country where nothing is easy to win.

“With these achievements, I reached a goal I had set myself since the first day I arrived in Italy: to win the championship, the Cup and the Super Cup, and also to be Best Player and Top Scorer in this great football country filled with tremendous players, giant clubs and a very own football culture.

“I’ve already said that I don’t chase records, records chase me. For those who don’t understand what I mean by this, it’s very simple: football is a collective game, but it is through individual overcoming that we help our teams achieve their goals.”

The 36-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid player said he was delighted to have won major individual and team honours with clubs in three different countries.

“This is what I work for, this is what moves me and this is what I’ll always keep chasing for until the last day,” added Ronaldo, who did not play in Juventus’ 4-1 win over Bologna on the final day.

“Thanks to everyone who took part in this journey. We stand together.”

The club has not commented on the post so far.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has been linked to various landing spots, from Manchester to Madrid.

Ronaldo has helped Juventus secure five trophies across his three years in Turin, among them two Serie A titles. But European glory still eludes the club, which paid close to 105 million euros to Madrid in 2018 precisely for that.

Juventus last won the Champions League in 1996; by contrast, Ronaldo helped Madrid to four titles.

Change is in the air in Turin and Ronaldo remains an attractive proposition for many.
