A fit-again Hardik Pandya was named in the India squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Along with Pandya, who looks to have successfully recuperated from a back surgery, opener Shikhar Dhawan and seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also add depth to the 15-member squad. Captain Virat Kohli will also be playing in the series.
This is the first squad selected under the chairmanship of Sunil Joshi.
However, regular vice-captain Rohit Sharma is yet to fully recuperate from his calf muscle injury and so has not been kept in the squad. Rohit is expected to return to action during the Indian Premier League later this month.
While opener Prithvi Shaw retained his place in the squad, an out-of-form Mayank Agarwal’s place was taken by Dhawan.
Dhawan had dislocated his shoulder during the final ODI against Australia at home and missed the New Zealand series.
Bhuvneshwar, on the other hand, had a sports hernia surgery but has successfully completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.
The Mumbai duo of Shardul Thakur and Shivam Dube were left out for their shoddy showing in New Zealand.
Young Shubman Gill found a place in the squad, but Kedar Jadhav was ignored.
