Steeplechase runner Avinash Sable will train at St Moritz, Switzerland, for this year’s World Athletics Championships.
The sports ministry’s Mission Olympic Cell has approved the Commonwealth Game silver medallist’s tour. The expenditure will be borne by the ministry’sTarget Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
It will cover Sable and his coach’s airfare, visa fees,local transport costs, boarding and lodging, and out-of-pocket allowance, among other expenses.
Sable, along with coach Scott Simons, is scheduled to train at St Moritz from August 7-16, before heading to Budapest, Hungary, for the World Championships.
The Mission Olympic Cell has also approved proposals of eight TOPS paddlers, among them Manika Batra, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Sreeja Akula, Archana Kamath, Yashaswini Ghorpade and Diya Chitale, to compete at various WTT events. It will pay for the paddlers’ airfare, visa fees, local transport costs, boarding and lodging and other expenses.
