Bangladesh’s ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza and his family are likely to be part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 66-member delegation that will arrive in the city on Friday morning.

Hasina will be present at Eden Gardens in the afternoon and ring the bell before the start of the Day-Night Test between the two countries.

Contacted by The Telegraph late on Tuesday evening, Mashrafe refused to confirm if he would be part of the delegation. “I am not sure… Let’s see,” Mashrafe said.

A source, however, said that he would be coming to the city with Hasina and will meet the Bangladesh players before the match.

Union home minister Amit Shah was also supposed to be present at the ground on the opening day of the pink-ball Test. But there was no confirmation from his office till late on Tuesday.

The players and the support staff of the two teams arrived in the city on Tuesday.

Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav will join the squad on Wednesday.

India captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane were the first to reach in the morning.

The Indian players stayed put at the hotel while the visiting players went to the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh for an official dinner.

India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha visited Kalighat Club in the afternoon and met his club teammates before heading to the team hotel.

Preparations were on in full swing two days before the historic Test at the Eden. Both teams will have their training session on Wednesday.

Bangladesh lost the first Test by an innings and 130 runs. The team will be looking to make a fresh start.

“We are eager to play the historic pink-ball Test. We do not know much about how the ball will behave…

“The Indian players will also be on the same page. We don’t want to think about the past. We know we didn’t play well in the first Test but this is a new game and we are looking forward to it,” Bangladesh pacer Al-Amin Hossain said on Tuesday.

“We had two good training sessions in Indore and we will have two more at the Eden. Hope we would do better this time,” he said.

Al-Amin didn’t play the first Test but is likely to play the second.

“The pink ball is different but everybody will play with the same ball. The seam is a little bit hard. As a bowler I can tell you, bowlers will get some advantages. If I play the match, I will try my best to put the Indian batsmen under pressure,” he said.

Sachin to inaugurate

Sachin Tendulkar will inaugurate the renovated Pankaj Gupta Memorial Indoor Training Centre on the opening day of the Test.

The former India captain will also take part in a discussion with Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble.
