Liverpool’s attacking fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold feels very excited to be part of Juergen Kloop’s highly-talented side.
“Exciting! It’s fun! You just go with the flow, play the game and I do what I need to do, trying to help the team win both offensively and defensively. It’s as simple as that, really!” he said.
“I like it when it’s as simple as that! I get a lot more freedom on that right hand side. Over the last four years, it’s always been me and Mohamed Salah. Our right midfielders have changed and rotated, yet we’ve always been there. We’ve built a good connection there, we understand each other’s games, appreciate each other’s games a lot more this season more than any other. And I think there’s an understanding between the right-hand triangle to know that attacking, go and create, go and attack, go and score goals… Hurt the opposition; that’s what we try and do. We try and give each other the ball in places that can hurt the opposition so we can win games.”
Trent said Salah finishing seventh on the Ballon d’Or list was very surprising but was confident that snub would motivate the Egyptian maestro to perform better.
“There are always surprises in those kind of awards. He’s a great player and been in tremendous form over the last year and since he got here at Anfield. I don’t have any explanation as to why he was in seventh but I’m sure his motivation like many of ours will be to be higher up the list next year.
Trent missed Euro campaign in the summer after picking up a thigh injury during England’s 1-0 friendly win over Austria in early June. But he is not someone to think much about the past.
“I don’t tend to really dwell on the past. I would say yeah it was difficult to see… knowing that I should have been there. But everything happens for a reason. It wasn’t meant to be this time around so I got over it as fast as I could. But it’s past. Nothing I can do to change it. So, I wouldn’t say it’s given me extra motivation, but I try and go out there and play the best I can — it’s not about the individual things for me.”
