Suhail Ahmed Bhat netted a hat-trick, while Fardin Ali Mollah scored a brace as Mohun Bagan Super Giant routed Dalhousie Athletic Club 5-2 in a Calcutta Football League Premier Division match at the club ground on Sunday. Siba Hari and Abhas Kundu scored for Dalhousie.

This was Bagan’s third victory on the trot and in the three matches they have scored 13 goals.

Football returned to Bagan home after four years and the capacity crowd enjoyed the performance dished out by the Reserves.

Bhat, the 18-year-old from Srinagar, was the cynosure scoring his maiden treble in the local league. His first came in the 25th minute, off a pass from Lalrinliana Hnamte, the second was in the 44th and the hat-trick came off a penalty four minutes after the change of ends.

Fardin Ali Mollah made it 4-0 on the hour mark and after Dalhousie reduced the margin, Mollah got his second. Dalhousie made it 5-2 in injury time of the second half.

Bhat is a discovery of former India player and present Mohammedan Sporting coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo when the latter was working at the J&K football academy.

Wadoo and present India under-16 coach Ishfaq Ahmed advised the youngster to try his luck outside Kashmir. “Before coming to Calcutta I had spoken to both,” the Cristiano Ronaldo and Sunil Chhetri fan said after the match.

Emami East Bengal take on West Bengal Police at Naihati Stadium on Monday. In the first match, they were held goalless by Rainbow AC. Coach Bino George said his team would give it all.
