Dimitri Petratos, who won the Durand Cup final for Mohun Bagan on Sunday, dedicated his goal to the fans.
“I was emotional and happy. This goal is for the fans. They can celebrate now. This is what I wanted. Many fans didn’t get tickets for the final. This win is for them too,” Petratos told The Telegraph minutes after referee Rahul Gupta blew the final whistle.
Petratos has a knack for scoring in big games and that's the reason why fans adore him. "Supporters believe in me and I want to win more trophies for my club and fans.”
Bagan coach Juan Ferrando heaped praise on Petratos. "We know about Petratos’ abilities, and he knows how to soak in the pressure. So we decided to start with him and not Jason (Cummings)."
East Bengal coach Carles Cuadrat said 10-man Bagan (after Anirudh Thapa's red card) played fearlessly. "Playing a man down, Mohun Bagan had nothing to lose."
