A last-gasp goal by Empoli midfielder Viktor Kovalenko condemned champions Napoli to a 1-0 home loss in Serie A on Sunday as they squandered the chance to move up to third in the standings.
Ukrainian Kovalenko scored the winner in stoppage time, netting from inside the box as the ball bounced in off the far post.
Napoli, who were still without injured striker Victor Osimhen, thought they had moved in front through Giovanni Simeone in the 27th minute, only to see his goal ruled out for offside.
Napoli, who stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin in the Champions League on Wednesday, are fourth on 21 points, two behind AC Milan —who were held to a 2-2 draw at Lecce on Saturday — and eight adrift of leaders Juventus.
Juventus moved top of the standings with a 2-1 home win over lowly Cagliari on Saturday as defenders Gleison Bremer and Daniele Rugani scored in the second half to secure a fifth consecutive victory for their side.
Toulouse draw
Toulouse forward Thijs Dallinga cancelled out a first-half opener by Lille’s Leny Yoro to earn his side a 1-1 away draw in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
In a game of few chances, defender Yoro nodded home for Lille on the half-hour mark before Dallinga levelled after connecting with a free-kick, also with a header, in the 65th minute.
Remy Cabella had a golden chance to secure Lille all three points eight minutes from full-time but the midfielder hit the post from a tight angle.
Lille moved up to fourth in the standings on 20 points from 12 games.
They are four points behind AS Monaco in third and seven adrift of leaders Paris St Germain.
