Juventus returned to winning ways after four league games without a victory thanks to a 1-0 success against Fiorentina with a first-half goal from Federico Gatti to consolidate their hold on third place in Serie A on Sunday.
Juve now have 62 points, closing the gap with second-placed AC Milan to six and extending their lead over Bologna in fourth to four points.
The hosts had three goals ruled out for offside in the opening half but took the lead in the 21st minute through Gatti, which turned out to be the winner.
Juventus were pushed harder after the break but held on for a second victory in 10 league games after they won their Coppa Italia semi-final, first leg, 2-0 against Lazio in midweek.
Brest prevail
Brest held on to beat struggling Metz 4-3 and consolidate second place in the Ligue 1 on Sunday, moving the club closer to qualification for the Champions League for the first time.
The home side led 4-1 but got pegged back to 4-3 after Georgia forward Georges Mikautadze struck two late goals. Brest trimmed Paris Saint-Germain’s lead to 10 points with only six games left.
Third-placed Monaco beat Rennes 1-0 to stay within one point of Brest, with Maghnes Akliouche hitting a first-time shot from a left-wing cross in the 25th. Both sides had a player sent off: Rennes’ Martin Terrier and Monaco defender Thilo Kehrer.
