Emami East Bengal have started to scout for Carles Cudrat’s successor. East Bengal and the Spaniard parted ways on Monday after five consecutive losses in all competitions.

Bino George, who manages the reserve side, has been named interim head coach. George has achieved considerable with the reserve team and East bengal are on the brink of winning the CFL Premier Division title.

“The Emami East Bengal FC management appreciates coach Carles for guiding the team to the Kalinga Super Cup title and AFC continental competitions after a long hiatus. We wish him the best in his future endeavours,” Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal of Emami said in a statement.

The Telegraph, in its Monday edition, reported that Cuadrat is on his way out.

East Bengal play Jamshedpur FC away in the ISL-XI match on Saturday. That is the last match before the Fifa international break. The ISL Derby is slated for October 19.

East Bengal will shortlist their preferred choices to helm the team in the next two days and then start speaking to them.

Antonio Lopez Habas and Juan Ferrando, the two former Mohun Bagan coaches and Cuadrat’s compatriots, have been ruled out.

Habas is managing I-League side Inter Kashi, The reason behind Ferrando’s diminished chance could be that he was given the boot by Mohun Bagan earlier this year and supporters might not embrace the idea of hiring a coach who was sacked by the arch-rivals.

Under Cuadrat, East Bengal ended a prolonged trophy drought since the Federation Cup triumph in 2012 by winning the Kalinga Super Cup title in January this year. It remains the only title of his reign. He also led the team to a runners-up finish in last year’s Durand Cup.

But it was not smooth sailing for the 55-year-old Spaniard as the red and gold brigade finished a disappointing ninth in the ISL-X with six wins as many draws and 10 defeats.

The pressure mounted on Cuadrat after East Bengal, who overhauled their squad in the summer, made a disastrous start — a hat-trick of defeats — to the ongoing ISL season.
