The member-associations of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will meet on Thursday to pass a resolution which will facilitate calling of a special general body meeting with a notice of seven days.

The meeting has been called after the Fifa-AFC delegation, it has been learnt, told the representatives of the state associations that the election process has to be completed by September 30.

India will be hosting the under-17 women’s World Cup from October 11-30 and a new body will have to be in charge before that.

“The state associations will meet to pass a resolution on the notice period for a special annual general meeting. The AIFF constitution says that a 21-day notice has to be given to call an AGM and the election can be held 30 days after that.

“Now since we are running against time, we cannot wait for so long. The SGM will be called once the Supreme Court gives the verdict on the new constitution,” a source said on Wednesday.

The meeting between the delegation and the state association was fruitful, the source said.

“They were happy that there are no differences of opinion amongst the stakeholders and everyone wants a democratically elected body as early as possible,” the source added.

The Fifa-AFC team will meet all the stakeholders together on Thursday.

“It is expected that the cut-off date for AIFF elections would be announced in the meeting. Non-compliance could lead to a ban.

“So it’s imperative to sort out the objections to the draft constitution. We will also have a meeting with the CoA (three-member Committee of Administrators) regarding that on Thursday,” he said.

The member-associations also told the Asian Football Confederation general secretary Windsor John-led team that the Supreme Court intervention was necessary “since one person was clinging on to a post even after his term was over.”

The delegation, it was learnt, has agreed to the associations’ view that India would need more than one vice-president as mentioned in the draft constitution.

“They agreed for equal representation India would need five VPs.”

Regarding players’ representation in the executive committee, it’s likely that they would have a four-year term without voting rights.

“Twenty five per cent of the executive committee will be players (four men and two women).”
