Mohun Bagan Super Giant thrashed AFC Cup debubtants Odisha FC 4-0 in their opening game of the tournament’s group phase at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Strikes from Sahal Abdul Samad, Dimitri Petratos (brace) and Liston Colaco sealed the deal for Bagan as they produced a clinical showing, particularly in the second half of the game.
In the first minute following the change of ends, Samad drew first blood for Bagan off a Manvir Singh backpass. That opened the floodgates for Bagan.
Around the 67th-minute mark, Petratos scored his first and doubled Bagan’s lead. Striker Jason Cummings, taking the field at the start of the second half, crossed one before a rival defender went for the clearance. Odisha goalkeeper Amrinder Singh’s attempted fist then went straight to Petratos, who did the needful by slotting home the rebound.
Soon after, Colaco headed home another Manvir assist before Petratos scored his second, taking advantage of Odisha’s defensive lapse, after Liston had set it up.
