India will not be represented in the South Asian Football Federation Elective Congress to be held in Dhaka on July 2 after All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) senior official Subrata Dutta decided to withdraw himself from attending the meeting.

It has been learnt that member-associations voiced their displeasure after ousted president Praful Patel requested the Committee of Administrators to allow Dutta to represent India at the meeting.

Patel, who attended virtually, popped Dutta’s name during the winding-up meeting of the Fifa-AFC delegation with all the stakeholders on Thursday.

“The members were very upset with the way Patel backed Dutta’s name. The feeling amongst the majority of state association was that Patel was trying to dictate terms,” an official of one of the state associations told The Telegraph on Friday.

Dutta, the official said, withdrew his name after gauging the mood of the member-associations.

The Congress, initially scheduled for Saturday, was deferred by a week following a request from the AIFF since the Fifa under-17 Women’s World Cup draw was slated for Friday.

The Fifa-AFC delegation, which was on a three-day visit to New Delhi, on Thursday set a September 15 deadline for the AIFF to complete the election, failing which India could be banned by the world governing body.
