Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial secured a well-earned 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday.

However, Marcus Rashford went off injured and that somewhat spoiled the win which kept United thick in the race for a top-four finish.

Rashford limped down the tunnel with 10 minutes left after he was substituted for Wout Weghorst. United manager Erik ten Hag later spoke to BT Sport confirming that Rashford ‘doesn’t look well’.

Ten Hag also blasted the current schedule saying that Rashford’s injury is down to the sheer number of games the club has had to play. “We have to wait — it doesn’t look well. Once again, it is due to the schedule; it can’t be that you play three games in six days. We have to protect our players,” he said.

“Everyone wants the best players on the pitch and the better show, but you need the best players for that.”

“It was great football from ourselves and we were disappointed to only go in (at half time) 1-0 up,” United captain Harry Maguire said.

Haaland double

Erling Haaland netted a brilliant bicycle kick as he scored a brace on his return to Manchester City’s starting lineup after injury in a 4-1 win at bottom side Southampton.

Earlier, Alexander Isak scored a superb winner as Newcastle United came from behind to beat Brentford.

After Joelinton’s ball across the face of goal was diverted into the net by Brentford keeper David Raya to level the scores after 54 minutes, Newcastle got the decisivegoal eight minutes later when Isak curled his shot into the top corner.
