Erik ten Hag's squad had returned on the team coach from Burnley following their 1-0 win before leaving the training base in their personal cars.

Pictures emerged online showing the aftermath of the incident. A pole on a traffic island was toppled just metres away.

On Sunday morning, Rashford posted on social media: "Three points on the road! I'm alright guys thanks for the messages."

It is understood emergency services attended the scene, but Rashford did not require medical attention and no arrests were made.

Rashford played the full 90 minutes of United's win at Turf Moor — the club's first win in four matches.

United captain Bruno Fernandes struck a volley to earn the victory at Burnley.

The Portuguese got on the end of a pinpoint Jonny Evans pass on the stroke of half time to dispatch a first-time finish past Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Evans also had a goal disallowed, although Burnley had plenty of chances.
