Manchester United are ramping up their bid for Mason Mount after Chelsea rejected the previous offer.

According to reports in the British media, Manchester United are set to put up a bid worth over £55 million for the midfielder. United’s earlier offer of £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons was rejected on Wednesday but discussions are still on. Chelsea had initially set an amount upwards of £70 million but are understood to be agreeable to £65 million. United think the valuation is way too high.

United coach Eric ten Hag is keen to clinch the deal for Mount so that he can be with the club for the whole of the pre-season.

The England international wants to leave Chelsea and has only one year remaining on his contract. Mount, 24, has rejected at least two contract offers from Chelsea and does not at present have a proposal from the London club.

United are also interested in West Ham United captain Declan Rice. Arsenal and Manchester City are also in the running for the 24-year-old England midfielder.

Ten Hag, who has been stopped from making an immediate move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, is also in talks for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.
