East Bengal entered the Kalinga Super Cup final defeating Jamshedpur FC 2-0 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
Goals in either half from defender Hijazi Maher and forward Javier Siverio were enough for Carles Cuadrat’s men to advance to their second final of the season.
East Bengal capitalised on their very first opportunity from a set-piece situation in the 20th minute. Cleiton Silva’s in-swinging corner found Saul Crespo on the far post, with the Spaniard unselfishly setting up Hijazi Maher for a straightforward tap-in.
East Bengal looked dangerous on the break. Once PV Vishnu tested Jamshedpur FC’s Rehenesh TP with a long-range effort.
Just two minutes into the second half, Nishu Kumar found space on the left flank before delivering a low cross that met Javier Siverio’s run. The Spaniard calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to double the lead.
