Is Joachim Loew on the Japan radar as the next coach for the national team? In July 2018, Japan had made a statement that their dependence on foreign manager is over when they appointed Hajime Moriyasu as the new coach.

Moriyasu has just taken Japan to the last-16 stage of the ongoing World Cup topping Group E which also had Spain, Germany and Costa Rica. Now news is that the Japan Football Association wants to bring Loew as the head coach to guide the side to the 2026 World Cup.

Loew, who masterminded Germany’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2014, ended his 15-year association with the German football association (DFB) after the Euro 2020 last-16 loss to England handing over the reins to Hansi Flick.

Loew, in a recent interview, had said he was feeling motivated to return to coaching after a year-and-half hiatus. “I feel motivated again when I watch football now — that wasn’t the case for a few months,” Loew had told German football magazine Kicker. If I have the feeling that a task would appeal to me, I’m ready and take it again on.”

Before JFA zeroed in on Moriyasu as the coach four and half years back, they had sounded out Arsene Wenger to take over but the deal never materialsed.
