East Bengal lost to Bengaluru FC 2-1 in an ISL-X match in Bangalore on Wednesday.
A moment of magic from Javi Hernandez helped Simon Grayson’s men clinch the comeback win.
Naorem Mahesh Singh’s strike (15th minute) gave East Bengal an early lead before Sunil Chhetri (21st minute) scored from the spot to bring things level, setting it up well for Hernandez’s acrobatic overhead goal (72nd minute) that sealed the first three points of the campaign for the hosts.
Nandhakumar Sekar carved open the Bengaluru backline with an impressive through ball that was gathered well by Mahesh Singh 15 minutes into the game.
His first touch and footwork helped him get past the home team’s centre-back pairing of Parag Srivas and Slavko Damjanovic.
He then had only goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to get past and the attacker made light work of the same much to the delight of coach Carles Cuadrat.
