Bengaluru FC (BFC) recorded their eighth consecutive win in ISL IX and confirmed a top-four finish after a 3-1 win over FC Goa at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday.
Narayanan Sivasakthi scored a brace and Pablo Perez came on to score the third as BFC ended FC Goa’s playoff race and confirmed Odisha FC’s entry as the sixth and final team in the playoffs.
BFC finished their league stage with 34 points. ATK Mohun Bagan, who are now fourth with 31 points, will also have a top-four finish if they beat East Bengal in the Derby clash on Saturday.
A draw or loss will give coach Juan Ferrando a sleepless night on Saturday, because a Kerala Blasters win over Hyderabad FC in Kochi the next day will push ATK Mohun Bagan to fifth place. According to the tournament rules, third and fourth-placed teams will have the home advantage in the single-legged playoff tie.
ATK Mohun Bagan striker Dimitri Petratos said three points against the arch-rivals will be crucial. “A win will enable us to seal a top-three finish.”
Petratos, however, said East Bengal’s confidence will be high after the away win against League Shield winners Mumbai City FC on February 19.
“East Bengal’s morale will be high after the victory. They are a strong side,” he said.
