East Bengal recorded their first victory in ISL after nine months and 10 matches — two in the ongoing edition — on Thursday.
Stephen Constantine’s men defeated NorthEast United FC 3-1 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati with Cleiton Silva (11th), Charis Kyriakou (53rd) and Jordan O’Doherty (84th) finding their names on the scoresheet. Matt Doherty got a consolation goal (90+2).
The last time East Bengal had a win was in ISL VIII when they defeated FC Goa 2-1 on January 19.
Thursday’s three points will delight Constantine as East Bengal now get ready for the clash against ATK Mohun Bagan on October 29.
The visitors took the lead in the 11th minute after some diligent work from Naorem Mahesh Singh.
NorthEast United FC’s Mohamed Irshad got caught on the ball during the team’s build-up, which gave Singh an opportunity to pinch it from the full-back before laying it to the open Silva, who made no mistake with his finish.
