East Bengal lost 2-0 to Hyderabad FC in the ISL IX at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday.
Javier Siverio scored the opening goal of the match in the ninth minute and substitute Aaren D’Silva wrapped up the three points in the 93rd minute.
Eager to stay hot on the heels of Mumbai City FC, Hyderabad FC got off to a flyer. Borja Herrera whipped a looping cross into the box from the left side of midfield and it dipped straight onto the head of an unmarked Siverio. The striker’s cushioning header saw the ball fly in at the far post as Kamaljit was rooted in his spot.
The East Bengal FC shot-stopper was alert to deny Siverio a second goal minutes later when Hitesh Sharma’s shot from inside the box came straight to the Spaniard and his close-range strike was blocked by Kamaljit.
On Saturday, Chennaiyin FC will be eager to cut the gap between them and FC Goa who occupy sixth place when they host ATK Mohun Bagan in Chennai. Three points will see the Marina Machans leapfrog rivals Bengaluru FC and move into seventh place, just a point behind the final playoff spot that FC Goa currently occupy. The Mariners, on the other hand, will be looking to pull six points clear of FC Goa and propel themselves into third place.
Chennaiyin are winless in their last four games after drawing three and losing one. Additionally, Thomas Brdaric’s side have been lacking at home this season, winning just one out of six games.
