ATK Mohun Bagan defeated arch-rivals East Bengal for the eighth consecutive time on Saturday. The 2-0 win in the ISL IX Derby at the Salt Lake Stadium was comprehensive with Slavko Damjanovic and Dimitri Petratos scoring once each in the second half.
Understandably coach Juan Ferrando was happy with his side’s performance as ATK Mohun Bagan ensured a third-place finish.
ATK Mohun Bagan will now face Odisha FC in the one-legged playoff fixture on March 4. Odisha finished sixth in the league standings.
“For us, the most important thing is the third position. This season has been quite difficult for everybody. Now it’s time to think about the playoffs. I’m 50 per cent satisfied with the victory. I would’ve been happier if the team was in the top-two,” Ferrando said at the post-match news conference.
Ferrando did not agree that East Bengal were outplayed in the Derby. “Not really. In the first half it was difficult for us. In the second half, however, the scenario changed,” he said.
Hyderabad FC defeated Kerala Blasters 1-0 in Kochi on Sunday in the last game of the league stage.
