ISL IX: ATK Mohun Bagan gear up for ‘final’ battle

Winners will face Bengaluru FC in the final in Margao on March 18

ATK Mohun Bagan coach Juan Ferrando is treating Monday’s game against Hyderabad FC as the final. ATK Mohun Bagan host Manolo Marquez’s men at the Salt Lake Stadium in Monday’s second leg of the second semi-final of ISL IX.

The first leg in Hyderabad ended goalless and ATK Mohun Bagan have a feeling they would be able to take revenge for last year’s loss and give the home fans a reason to smile.

“Our mentality for this game is to play like it is the final. We will give out all to have a place in the final. In the first leg, Hyderabad had more rest compared to us but now the situation is even for both teams. We will try to seal the deal in 90 minutes,” Bagan’s Spanish coach said at a news conference on Sunday.

The winners will face Bengaluru FC in the final in Margao on March 18. Bengaluru FC, who won the first leg of the first semi-final 1-0, defeated Mumbai City 9-8 on penalties on Sunday. After 120 minutes of action in Bangalore, the aggregate score read 2-2 with Mumbai scoring two and the hosts one.

Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith has already won the Golden Glove and the two central defenders — Slavko Damjanovic and Pritam Kotal — have looked solid till now.

ATK Mohun Bagan are fretting over the fitness of Ashique Kuruniyan and Kiyan Nassiri.
