SC East Bengal have conceded 10 goals in three matches in the ongoing ISL VIII and on Friday, when they take on Chennaiyin FC at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco, the aim will be to let in less and score more.

Chennaiyin FC have won both their matches and will eye full points against a team which has already become the favourite punching bag of the league.

SC East Bengal’s Spanish coach Jose Manuel Diaz said he is aware of the areas in which the team needs to improve. “We have to defend the dead-ball situations well. With respect to the last match (SC East Bengal lost to Odisha FC 6-4), I’d tell my defence to improve their mental focus and pay more attention during set-pieces,” he said in the pre-match news conference.

Diaz is happy with his team finding the back of the net four times against Odisha FC. “We have started scoring goals. That is a big positive. It is an indication of the fact that the attacking line-up has started clicking together. But in football, it is a matter of balance. If our opponents score more goals than us, that means the defensive organisation is not very strong,” he added.

Diaz also provided updates on injured captain Arindam Bhattacharya and Jackichand Singh. “Arindam and Jacki are working with the medical staff right now. We don’t have an exact date for their return.”
