ATK Mohun Bagan play at Hyderabad FC in the first-leg of the ISL IX semi-final on Thursday and they are confident of making the trip to Goa for the final on March 18. The confidence comes from their three consecutive victories — against Kerala Blasters, the Derby win and the playoff triumph over Odisha FC.

So when coach Juan Ferrando was asked, at a news conference before ATK Mohun Bagan flew to Hyderabad on Wednesday, which team he would prefer in the final — Bengaluru FC or Mumbai City, the Spaniard said: “It’s difficult to tell that because both teams are in an excellent space to reach the final. They have a good squad. In my point of view,

“I think Mumbai City have had a fantastic season. Bengaluru also have been good and confident. But the performance of Mumbai this season has been very good.”

ATK Mohun Bagan will be without Ashique Kuruniyan who suffered an ankle injury in the early stages of the match against Odisha FC and flew to Mumbai to have some sessions with a physiotherapist. The idea is to see if he can be made fit for the final, in case ATK Mohun Bagan qualify.

Ferrando was asked about the controversial playoff tie between Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters last week which saw the latter pulling out in protest against Sunil Chhetri’s goal.

“Honestly, it’s a confusing situation. I think only Chhetri, (Adrian) Luna and (referee) Crystal John know the truth. Overall I was disappointed to see what transpired there (in Bangalore).”

ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith has assured himself of the Golden Glove trophy by having the maximum number of clean sheets. Kaith was injured against Odisha FC last week.
