I-League champions Mohammedan Sporting’s last game of the season against Delhi FC was never about the result.

It was only about celebrating with 40,000 supporters at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday.

Delhi FC, however, were here to spoil the party. So, just seven minutes after providing a guard of honour to the champions, Delhi FC were in the lead through Alisher Kholmurodov.

Then Gwgwmsar Goyary made it 2-0 against a second-string Mohammedan Sporting. Sergio Barboza tapped into the open net in the 98th minute and the scoreline read 3-0.

The consolation goal for Mohammedan Sporting came with the last kick of the game through Mirjalol Kasimov.

There was an embarrassment though. At the time of the team’s celebration, the I-League trophy was damaged.
