- Spain beat England 1-0 to win first Women's World Cup
- Spain captain Olga Carmona has provided her side with their first breakthrough as they take 1-0 lead over England.
England and Spain go head-to-head in the final of the Women’s World Cup on Sunday. Co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, the ninth edition of the global showpiece event was the first to be held in the southern hemisphere and has already broken attendance records.
England has enjoyed a dominating run, but Spain are no pushovers. En route to the final, Spain scored 17 goals with Aitana Bonmati, Jennifer Hermoso and Alba Redondo contributing three goals each. In terms of head to head records, England hold the advantage over Spain with seven wins while Spain have registered three victories. Six matches have ended in a draw.
A win for either team will also make them only the second nation to clinch both the men’s and the women’s World Cups after Germany.
