Bruno Fernandes scored twice to put Manchester United into the FA Cup semi-finals with a drama-filled 3-1 win over Fulham who had two players and manager Marco Silva sent off on Sunday. Fulham appeared to be heading for their first FA Cup semi-final appearance since 2002 after Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring in the 50th minute.

But Erik ten Hag’s side roared back with a vengeance at Old Trafford midway through the second half. A melee erupted when Willian was flagged for a handball after a VAR review and sent off. Mitrovic, who appeared to shove the referee, and Silva were also shown red cards.

Fernandes’s ensuing penalty put United on the scoreboard. Two minutes later, Marcel Sabitzer put the home team ahead with a backheel chip into the net off a cross from Luke Shaw. Fernandes scored again seconds before the final whistle.

Haaland on song

On Saturday, Erling Haaland smashed through the 40-goal barrier in his first season at Manchester City with a hattrick in his side’s 6-0 quarter-final rout of Burnley on Saturday.

Fresh from his five-goal salvo against RB Leipzig in midweek, the Norwegian forward struck trademark goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes and completed his sixth hattrick of the season when he converted a rebound to finish the tie just before the hour.

He now has 42 goals for City since joining from Borussia Dortmund last June. Julian Alvarez then struck twice with a goal by substitute Cole Palmer in between as City made it 13 goals in the week to cruise into the semi-finals.

“It’s been a good couple of last games,” Haaland, who scored his first goals in the FA Cup, said. “7-0 and 6-0 before the international break is impressiv and I’m happy.”
