Emami East Bengal appoint Oscar Bruzon as new head coach, replacing Carles Cuadrat

Emami East Bengal appointed Oscar Bruzon as their new head coach on Tuesday.

Bruzon, who replaced fellow-Spaniard Carles Cuadrat, has been contracted till the end of the current season. Bruzon’s name had been doing the rounds following the unceremonious exit of Cuadrat, under whom East Bengal bungled at this year’s Durand Cup, lost in the AFC Champions League II preliminary stage clash and got off to a poor start in the ISL.

No wonder it will be a very tough job for Bruzon as East Bengal have had a horrendous start to their ISL campaign, losing all of their four matches so far.

On the hot seat now, Bruzon, who led Bangladesh’s Basundhara Kings to several domestic titles, will be under massive pressure right from the onset as his debut game as East Bengal coach will be against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium on October 19.

Agreed Indian football isn’t completely alien to Bruzon as he has worked here in the past as coach of Sporting Clube de Goa, Mumbai FC and Mumbai City FC.

But coaching in other clubs and working in East Bengal, Mohun Bagan or Mohammedan Sporting is a completely different experience, owing to the high expectation levels and excessive scrutiny from the clubs and their fans.
