Mohun Bagan Super Giant ended FC Goa's 12-match unbeaten streak in the ISL-X winning 1-0 at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, on Wednesday.
A 75th-minute strike by Dimitri Petratos sealed the deal for Bagan as they got their second consecutive victory and prevented Manolo Marquez's men from bridging the gap between them and league leaders Odisha FC.
It was also a sweet revenge for Bagan who had lost to FC Goa 4-1 at home on December 23 last year. Antonio Lopez Habas's men are now third with 26 points from 13 matches.
The goal came when Bagan broke on the counter and a usually organised FC Goa backline seemed out of place. Manvir Singh capitalised on that by putting the ball past goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh.
Arshdeep, who had kept the most clean sheets in ISL-X before this, made a hasty clearance. An alert Petratos pounced on that and swirled over the custodian to make it 1-0 for the visitors.
In the first 20 minutes, the home side teased Bagan as their personnel tested them from both set-pieces and open play with midfielder Brandon Fernandes setting up deliveries for Carlos Martinez and Noah Sadaoui.
