The I-League was suspended on Wednesday for at least a week following Covid-19 outbreak inside one of the bio-bubbles.

Seven members of Real Kashmir FC, a support staff of Mohammedan Sporting and a player each from Sreenidi Deccan FC and Aizawl FC returned positive results after tests were conducted on Tuesday. Another member of Mohammedan Sporting’s support staff, who was sharing the room with the infected person, is in isolation.

The Telegraph had reported about the Covid-19 outbreak in its Wednesday’s edition. “The next round of matches (on December 30 and 31) will be rescheduled. We will review the situation on January 4,” I-League chairman Subrata Dutta said after an emergency meeting.

All these second-round matches will now be played later. Real Kashmir FC, Sreenidi Deccan FC, Mohammedan Sporting, Aizawl FC, Neroca FC and Rajasthan United are in a bio-bubble at a five-star property in New Town. There are two more bio-bubbles in two separate properties.

The first-round matches were played on Sunday and Monday while the third round games are scheduled for January 4 and 5. There is a cloud of uncertainty over the January 4 fixture too.

“All the players who have tested positive have already been isolated with AIFF (All India Football Federation) monitoring and arranging for subsequent regular medical consultations,” an I-League statement said.

All the players, staff and referees were tested on Wednesday. Tests will be conducted again on January 1 and 3.
