Mohun Bagan Super Giant are a transformed side from the Mohammedan Sporting match in the ongoing ISL-XI. Coach Jose Molina has tweaked the formation and given Greg Stewart a roving role which did wonders against Mohammedan Sporting — a 3-0 romp before the international break — and East Bengal — an easy 2-0 victory — on Saturday.
Stewart, 34, tormented East Bengal throughout the match and was deservingly adjudged man of the match. "Yes I enjoy playing a more central role," the Scot, who had a role in both the goals Bagan scored, said at the post-match news conference on Saturday.
Molina used Stewart on the flanks when the Spaniard was getting a grip on the team but when it did not yield the desired result he was pragmatic enough to bring Stewart to his preferred No. 10 position.
"I am ready to play wherever the coach wants me to play. Even if that's as a goalkeeper. We have a new coach, new set-up and I think we are still in transition. But if you ask me No. 10 is the position where I enjoy the most," he said.
Playing his first Calcutta derby, Stewart said Bagan could have won by a bigger margin. “We controlled most of the game. The defence and the midfield were solid. Jamie (Maclaren) and I worked hard for the team. We could have scored more goals, but no disrespect to East Bengal.”
