Calcutta: Emami East Bengal lost points the day their Spanish coach Carles Cuadrat touched down in the city. Cuadrat was present at the Naihati stadium to watch a 10-man East Bengal let go a 1-0 lead against BSS Sporting Club in a CFL Premier Division match on Monday.

BSS Sporting’s Nabakumar Das also got a red card in the 89th minute for his second bookable offence.

The 1-1 draw after two convincing victories would make East Bengal’s hopes of a Super Six berth difficult.

Playing with a man down from 16th minute — Tuhin Das got a straight red card for a rough tackle — East Bengal thought three points were in their kitty when Dip Saha scored in the 90th minute.

But much to the horror of those present at the stadium, goalkeeper Muhammed Nishad made a blunder while clearing the ball and BSS Sporting Club’s Sourav Sen did not make a mistake in tapping home from close.

“At the death, we wilted under pressure. Also, we could not convert the chances that came our way. You need to score to win. But at the same time the boys deserve praise for showing guts despite playing with a man down,” East Bengal coach Bino Goerge said after the match.

East Bengal got their first chance in the 28h minute but Kush Chhetri’s header failed to find the target. After the change of ends, Sarthak Golui sent in a cross but Shyamal Besra shot wide.

BSS Sporting also had their chances. Ananta Tau had a clear look at the goal but East Bengal defender Athul Unnikrishnan made a timely intervention. That was in the very first minute.

In another match, Peerless SC defeated Pathachakra 4-1.

ISL IX champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant, meanwhile, will unveil their jersey on Tuesday.
