Bhaichung Bhutia on Tuesday met top East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar, with sources saying the former India captain is taking the initiative to find new investors for the club he once played for.

Bhaichung, it was learnt, has already had discussions with a few investors, and once the pandemic situation improves, their representatives will meet East Bengal officials.

Bhaichung, however, remained tight-lipped. “Yes, I went to the club, but it was an informal visit,” he said.

East Bengal and their investors Quess parted ways on May 31. But the sporting rights are still with Quess East Bengal Football Club Private Limited. It was learnt that Quess will transfer the sporting rights back to the club soon.

Quess became East Bengal’s investors in 2018 under a three-year deal.
