ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando said he has complete faith in his players despite the defeat in their first match of ISL IX against Chennaiyin FC.
They face Kerala Blasters in Kochi on Sunday in what could be a difficult game for Ferrando’s men. Blasters defeated East Bengal 3-1 in the first match of ISL IX.
ATK Mohun Bagan made an indifferent start to the season with premature exits in the AFC Cup and the Durand Cup campaigns. Spaniard Ferrando though believes his team is full of talent and will eventually come good.
“For us, it’s an important match because we have come here to get three points. We are ready to execute our plan and get maximum points. This is the most important thing. The past is not important. It’s a new challenge and a new opportunity on Sunday,” Ferrando said at the pre-match news conference on Saturday.
Ferrando said his team was disappointed with the 2-1 home loss against Chennaiyin FC. “Yes, we are disappointed. We lost because we were not clear with our details. When you are not winning you get scared. This is the reason. But I trust this team. This team is in the process of growing up and is full of talent. We will surely have success,” he said.
Kerala Blasters will bank on their vociferous fans to secure their first-ever victory over ATK Mohun Bagan. The Mariners are the only team against whom the Tuskers have failed to taste a win in four attempts.
The Blasters will be glad to see Adrian Luna picking up from where he left off against East Bengal. Substitutes also played a key role in the 3-1 win. Two minutes after their introduction into the game, Bidyashagar Khangembam and Ivan Kalyuzhnyi combined to score the Tusker’s second goal of the evening. Eight minutes later, with his second shot, Kalyuzhnyi scored again.
