Albanian Armando Sadiku netted a brace as Mohun Bagan Super Giant prevailed in a thrilling contest over Kerala Blasters, winning the game 4-3 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Wednesday.
The others who found the target for Mohun Bagan were Deepak Tangri and Jason Cummings, who came in as a late substitute. For the Blasters, Vibin Mohanan and Dimitrios Diamantakos (brace) registered their name on the scoresheet.
The win helped Mohun Bagan join Mumbai City FC on 39 points, but they have to remain second in the standings as the latter are ahead in terms of goal difference.
Sadiku, who got a start in place of Cummings, drew first blood for Bagan early in the fourth minute with a right-footer from outside the box off Anwar Ali’s assist. Following Vibin’s 55th-minute equaliser, Sadiku helped Bagan regain the lead with a superb volley off Manvir Singh’s header from a set-piece move.
The Blasters restored parity again through Diamantakos. But soon after, Bagan led again as Tangri was allowed a free header off Dimitri Petratos’ cross.
